Default Help - Alternative to Orion ED80 CF

I have waiting since December for the ED80 CF and Orion keeps slipping the shipping dates. I am getting a bit impatient and was wondering what other members would advise from the following options:

    1. Keep waiting patiently - now latest shipping is April(2011 at the moment) OR GO FOR
    2. Williom Optics 80 Zenithstar II
    3. Skywatcher Equinox 80
    4. Orion EON 80 (if available - same as 3)
    5. Meade ED80 Triplet (single speed focusser?)

    My budget is < USD1000

    Hi there,
I have seen the William Optics 72mm APO for $499 on sale at several places. This is en excellent imaging scope but may not be up to your standards I would read up a bit on this scope.

There would be a few other APO's at this range but not many triplets - I think you would be able to find a few doublets.

I would wait as I also liked the Orion version, seems like a nice price when on sale but even when not it is one stunning scope.

    December to April? Yikes.

Maybe you could buy the Orion ST80 for around $200, then send your extra $800 to me. I'll order the ED80 CF, and in April, I'll let you know how I like it. Based on my review, you can decide if you want to buy one for yourself.

Hard call, though. Something about the ED80 CF made you choose it over others, so I'd probably stick with it. Easy for me to say, though.... I won't have clear skies until May.
