Default Astrophotography GSO D15

Hi.

I would like to know if anybody has ever tried the GSO D15. Its an F750 f/5 for astropotography.

It has a 2" crayford dual speed and a fan for the mirror in order to get it colder.

I would like to know what do you think about this scope for astrophotography becaus I havent been able to find anything in the web.

Thanks again.

I think one of the good things of this scope its the size, its a small scope, so it wont need a very heavy mount. I think that this scope + a DSLR may be moved by an EQ 5 with no problem.

I don't find that specific scope in the GSO line-up... who's distributing it?

The critical questions/specs would be the total back-focus distance and inward focuser travel.

It has the appearance of one of the older, now-discontinued Tak imaging Newt designs, except for the focuser profile.

With respect to the mount, it would depend on the combined weight of the scope, finder, DSLR and any T-ring/bayonet adapter tubing, along with guide-scope/guide camera if you're going to guide... The CG-5/EQ-5 mounts need to be de-rated by about half their rated capacity, especially if they're not tuned.

The last complexity is the "wrong end of the tube" issue - I will freely admit I'm biased against imaging Newts, in part because the mechanical issues in this design place the weight at the top of the tube, where the mount has to work against the imaging/optical chain at the top of the tube.

This creates additional mechanical workload for the mount, increases the inherent tracking error, and complicates balancing issues.
