Question Orion Optics UK Europa 150mm F6

Well I just managed to pickup one of these for £90!

Just wondering if anyone had ever used or seen one, it was purchased in 2001 for £650 and used less than 10 times and then stored in it's box until now!!

I just hope it's better than my Astromaster 130EQ.

I will get it one day next week.

Are you sure it is f/6? A bit odd focal length as they are normally f/5 or f/8.
Does it come with a mount? If it is anything like the current ones they carry it should do you well.

    Hello Vially,

the Orion U.K. used to have a good reputation.
Back in the days, I also have had my eyes on the Orion Dobs, they have been on display in a barn in a village south of Munich,
these old times of the Teleskop Service, you know, before TS has got a fashionable home in Munich.

    Enjoy your new-to-you Orion Dob,

A nice mount (EQ-4 class) lots of options available for it.

You've grabbed a bargain there ! I had one of their reflectors a few years ago ( can't remember which one ) .A friend viewed through it and made me an offer I couldn't turn down. As far as I recall they used to grind their own mirrors at that time and were much sought after. Good luck with it, I'm sure you'll like it.

    Well I got the scope..

The optics are very clean, not one spec of dust or dirt..

I have fitted my Telrad finder and set it all straight and setup the polar finder..

I had to collimate the primary, had it done in around 5 minutes! Never done it before so was quite pleased.. Probably moved a little during delivery..

Having used only in daylight, the focusing and stability is far superior to my Astromaster 130eq and the image seems a lot sharper..

Now just to wait for a clear night!! Good old UK the weather looks rubbish for a while!

Will let you know how I get on once the sky clouds clear.

I have been in touch with John from Orion UK and the optics on this scope are the same as the VX6 scope they make today..

So I think this has really good quality optics.

Well I got to see Jupiter and 4 moons, what a great sight it was..

This is the first time I have seen Jupiter through a decent scope, so excited to have had this experience..

I could see the cloud rings too, using 9mm LX EP, then a 10mm std EP with my omni x2 barlow.

Next purchase is a 5mm EP..

I think I got the collimation right by eye..
