Never tried one outside of the tube.
My homemade one has a 2mm hole.
Hi there,
So it seems all those empty film canisters that were so common in my house are not to be found.
I'd like to make a collminating cap out of a pvc end-cap.
How big of a hole do I drill?
Also, does it need to have a piece that fits inside the focus tube or is it okay if I make one that fits snuggly over the top of the tube?
Should I use the 2" focus opening or make one for the 1.25 adapter?
Many thanks,
Vim

Hi, I also had to make a collimation cap for my telescope. I stole the dust cap from my mini dob. I drilled same size hole as EMark, 2mm. seems to work fine.

Hope you keep posting on your thread about the laser, GRB.
I don't really want to buy one, so I'm not sure I'm hoping it works out for you
...but that's just my dwindling spare change talking.
Cheers,

I'd say drill the smallest hole you can still see through. More important than the size is the location: it has to be dead centre.

Vim,
If you have a drug store near you that takes in 35mm film for
processing and you are nice to them, they may be able to save
several hundred for you :-)
