Default Titan + a little imagination =

The March edition of ASTRONOMY magazine had an interesting article on Titan's landscape. Now Saturn is coming to its best view of the year. When I looked at it a couple of nights ago, I couldn't help letting my imagination run wild. I had as much fun watching Titan as watching Saturn.

The Universe really is an amazing thing. When man finally truly reaches for other worlds, I think we will find things are more bizarre than we can imagine. Titan is the perfect example. Jellied methane rain, lakes and rivers, sluggishly flowing through familiar looking riverbeds. You can say it with ease but truly imagining what that landscape would look and feel like, and how bizarre having gel liquid lakes of what is a gas here on Earth, is almost beyond actual imagination.

Titan is by far my favorite moon in the Solar system. Had it been our moon instead of Luna, we might have had a twin, because Titan has plenty of ice on its surface. The water would have been liquid, and the methane would be gaseous, allowing for a beginning similar to that of Earth's had it been closer to the Sun.

I just wrote a paper on Titan, Europa, and Gilese 581 d about the existance of extra-terrestrial life. If I could see Titan with my own eyes I'd probably die.
