Default What object is in the sky near Venus right now?

What object is in the sky near Venus right now? Around dawn today I saw two bright lights after the stars were no longer visible. Both were to the southeast. One was a lot brighter than the other. I think the bright one was Venus. What was the other one?

Well Venus and Jupiter are about 10 degs apart (about the width of a closed fist held at arm's length). They had a conjunction a few days ago where they were less than 1 degree apart. Venus is at about mag -3.9 and Jupiter about -1.8. Jupiter is the western most of the two. I don't know where you are located, so the direction could be slightly different depending on your latitude.

Download a free program called " Stellarium ". It shows you what's up and where to find it.

Yes that was likely Jupiter. As Alan pointed out, they are about a fist's distance from each other currently. Venus is the brighter of the two, and it's nearer the Sun. I was admiring them earlier this morning.

I also recommend you download Stellarium. It is free and very detailed:

    Stellarium

Another excellent program is Cartes du Ciel (Sky Charts) - it's in English - which is also free:
