Default Charts for Uranus and Neptune for 2009

Hello All,

After much searching I found this very useful page from the New Zealand Astronomical Society detailing the whereabouts of Uranus and Neptune in the coming year, and including anecdotes about several cool conjunctions coming up in April with Jupiter and Mars.

[Registered users can see links. ]

**Question for those that can think upside down (I cant):

all of the info listed is for the Southern Hemisphere--will I see these same conjunctions up here in the Northern Hemisphere? I am mainly interested in knowing when Uranus and Neptune will no longer be in the glare of the setting or rising sun so that I can try to find them in my unobstructed portion of the sky (which includes more than 180 degrees of North, East and South).

And if you don't like dealing with man-in-the-middle websites that demand an email address to let you through, here's the page you're heading for:

I guess I cant just copy hyperlinks out of email to myself--I need to go to the site itself and copy the URL---live and learn!

Hey Mark, thx for the link, you can also check out this link for more info on conjuctions and how to view Uranus. Click on links to view the same info for all the other planets.

I'm definately heading out to the darkest site I've found come late August-September and even October!

By the way, I guess Mark's answer to his question about wether it's the same stats for Northern Hemisphere observers was Yes, right?

Ok, after reading more, I guess this answers it: "They are due north (or south from the northern hemisphere) at close to local midnight."

The Jan issue of Sky and Telescope always has a nice pull out showing where the planets will be throughout the year.

Default So this is cool

Because everything I see in my Newtonian reflector is rotated 180 degrees and I dont own a diagonal, those charts I linked to (which are oriented for the Southern latitudes) match what I will actually see in my scope.

Very handy!
