Default question about physics?

This much i have assumed about physics, when 2 forces are pit against eachother, the stronger force wins for example: someone trying to bend a stick would be like:
(stick strength resistance to breaking) < (human strength breaking)
the way i see it, its almost like a battle, the person is trying to break it (Force) and the stick is opposing it (Opposing Force) but the Force is stronger than that of the sticks so it "wins"
supposing that my explanation is correct, what would happen if both forces are matched equally and no one "wins"? could that be possible?

A cylindrical tube filled with water. Now picture a disk the exact diameter and its being pushed into the tube by something hydraulically powered. according to the above, the forces are (the tendency for the tube to break), (tendency for water to leak), (tendency for hydraulics to fail or seize), and i guess (tendency for water to compress)
granted the above forces are all equally matched, could the water compress?
