    Default Orion Intelliscope LCD Display

    Hello Everyone!

Please help me!! Accidently the intelliscope controller fell out of my hand and the LCD display broke. I already wrote several e-mails to Orion support, trying to send me only the LCD display for me, but it seems they won't. I've already seen in forums it's possible to purchase for example only the encoders for the system, so I don't think it's impossible if they send me only the LCD display... I'm from Hungary, I could buy it from a local dealer but for an about 250 USD, I think it's understandable it's a bit expensive for a display.. Could anyone help me, contact Orion to deliver 2-3 pieces of LCD displays and after that post me to Hungary? Of course I'll pay for everything. Here's my e-mail address, please write me if you can help! 89.adamgali@gmail.com

Many thanks! And sorry for my english I hope everything's clear!

    Greetings,

    Ádám Gáli

You can buy a LCD unit from any electronics store. I pay around $3 US for one.
As long as you're comfortable desoldering, and then soldering, it's not difficult.

Thanks for the quick reply Jim! I have already bought one display, but was not compatible with the controller. Did you have to change yours too? My first idea was to ask orion support to give me the production code of the lcd display to find the same one but they are not giving it out.
Because I cannot post links until I reach 5 posts here’s a cutted link:

If you also had to replace it could you help me which display will work?

Just be advised that some LCD displays have different control pinnouts and different control parameters.
For example, some take a serial signal and others parallel.
See this youtube - titled "Serial vs Parallel GLCD Showdown"
The probability is- its a parallel unit - because those are less expensive and more prevalent.
If its possible see if you can read the mfg and model on the back of the display.
But in all probability - like quincy stated - you'll have to de-solder the display in order to do anything with it.
You may also want to see if you can pickup a used hand unit - as there are XT users who eventually stop using them.
    Best of luck!

I broke my a number of years ago. Neither Orion or Skywatcher would sell me just the LCD display.
I could never find one that works and fits in the case.

Your best bet is to buy a new version 5 hand controller.

Are you the original owner of the scope? Orion will not sell replacement parts to non-original owners.
