Get the padded cases. They're a little pricey but worth every penny.

One of the most important things that you can do is buy a set of “Bob’s Knobs” to adjust the collimation. Next get rid of the useless reflex finder and get a 9 x 50 RACI. You may also want to consider a Telrad or a laser but I would wait and see what you need. Buy three or four high end eyepieces. You won’t be sorry later.

Insulate the trusses, fit extra counterweights to the correct balance, strip the GoTo's and tighten all the screws (I have a post how to do this), fit fans, fit a temperature probe to the primary mirror with ambient sensor and fit a secondary mirror cover made out of a plastic container which is easy to do. Set up right it's a great piece of equipment, I can easily switch between Visual and DSLR DSO without worrying about the outcome.

I got one 4 years ago, and still use it all the time. I suggest the following:
- padded cases. I travel with mine a lot and it makes that process easier
- JMI wheelybars. i use this for leveling and for moving it around at sites. I do a lot of outreach with my club.
- fans. the fans that come with it have a big impact on how fast the primary cools down.
- Laser collimater. I got the hotech one and I could not be happier.
i never bought the bob's knobs, and I did get some 12v car accessory wires to connect the fan (via a 12v switch) to the same Power supply that I use for the scope. I should add that I think getting a power supply that you can keep on the scope is a good idea. I am a big fan of any small Lithium Ion one that you like. I use celestron's smaller one that hooks on to this beast.
