    Default Photos with my dob.

There are a couple of guys doing a 2 day route on the Chief right now. At 163x I could recognize them if I knew them. If I could take pictures, I could maybe sell them to climbing magazines. or not.

Anyway, I bought my dob when I realized that I didn't need to take pictures with a telescope, and now I see that it would be nice to have the capability.

All I need to be able to do is focus the camera on the diagonal, right?

I have an old, (by today's standards) Kodak DX6490. It zooms 10 times and has a close-up setting. When you turn it on a 1-5/8 barrel comes out a bit more than an inch, and the zooming mechanism works inside it. My screw focuser is 1-13/16 to the inside of the threads. A good machinist could make me an adapter if he knew the thread. It would be a firm press fit on the camera barrel. It could be abs, probably best.

with it being daytime outside you could probably just take a picture right through the eyepiece. and the shutter speed should be reasonable.

Hi peter ...The problem with zooming point and shoot camera's is it usually cuts down on the sensor size when zoomed all the way ...I think it works this way....There should be something about optical/digital zoom settings ...Optical is ok but the digital takes away from the sensor size cutting down on effective pixels ..

Is this one of the routes you are talking about?
I used to be into rock climbing. But recent back pain is keeping me from doing it. I couldn't imagine doing a route that long...or high.

I started to curb my on-setting fear of heights, but that would still scare the s##t out of me!

Yeah Rich, I mean 10x optical. I don't even count the extra digital zoom, and never use it. I can crop later to the same effect.

No, Campec. The grand wall will soon need traffic control. There is always someone on it. It is probably 4-6 hours, depending on skill. This route is around to the left.
