OK - hear me out. Why is it that something like Star Wars, which made a lot of money and a lot of sequels, is considered geeky when other blockbusters like Titanic and Batman and Indiana Jones aren't? Just because it takes place in space? Is that it? To me, Titanic and Star Wars are the same thing: big movies that made a lot of money that everybody has seen.

It must be because the people who are into it are just DDDDREADFUL.

It's not the movies; it's the fans. We have been inundated with images of wannabe Darth Vaders and Storm Troopers and Wookis standing in line for hours outside movie theaters, wating with bated breath for the next installment.
If Indiana Jones or Batman fans acted like that, the movies would have the same unfortunate rep.
