Very sad news. I have been watching a video feed. How can a building built of stone burn like that?

Much of the roof structure was wood. Unfortunately, the collapse of the roof beams has likely damaged the stone arches supporting the roof. It will take many years and millions of francs to restore it.

Very sad indeed and I was wondering the same thing. Buildings of much lesser value have security guards who patrol premises and look for things like that.

I just saw a picture of the inside of Notre Dame and things don't look too bad. I heard also that relics which were stored in an upper level also were successfully moved. A lot of work has to be done on the roof as the timbers, which were from the 13th century were burned, hence some of the stone work, partly held up by the timbers collapsed.

HI JG. Thanks for the news update. Apparently it was confined to the wooden roof and under structure. The latest reports that I have is that may involve an area up to several acres, but there is no report of any casualties. It appears to be a result of a renovation project underway at the time, however, this is still a very great loss to history.
