    Default Red Flag Fire Alert

We're under a red flag fire alert here in the Berkeley/Oakland Hills through tomorrow morning. Today is blustery with high swirling winds. And wouldn't you know it - a fire has broken out in the Oakland Hills. I went outside about 20 minutes ago and smelled smoke and beheld an orange sun. It was first reported about 11:50 am but supposedly has been contained by Cal Fire in the last few minutes. White knuckle ride folks until we get our first rains of the season!!!

Refractors kick arse precisely because they don't hide behind excuses. That is, they have no obstructions to hide behind.

Thanks Ian! Now I just got a text from the AC alert system that there is a smoke warning for the Bay Area from the fires in Butte County for the next couple days! When will it end? There goes my observation chances for the next couple of days.

    Michael,

Looks like the California fire season is lasting forever this year. I hope smokey skies are the worse you face.

Hi Michael. The latest report that I have is that the fire has spread to thousands of acres, 27,000 people who live in Paradise had to evacuate, and so far at least 5 people have been found dead in their vehicles. When will this end, so stay safe Michael.

The smoke was very heavy yesterday and almost obscured the sun. Just about all high school football playoff games were canceled due to the unhealthy air conditions. Today is a bit better but the sun is still orange.

Another fire started in a homeless camp west of Chatsworth. Hundreds of homes lost and Sunday the winds will start again.
