Default Tent pegs and windows screen frames.

Like many of you, I'm crawling the walls with all the crappy weather. In fact, I'm so bored that I'm actually going through and cleaning some stuff up. Scary, I know.

Besides a lot of the other stuff I got rid of, there was some old aluminum tent pegs, a worn out 1-1/4" hole saw bit, and for some reason, a piece of the frame from a window screen.

    01.jpg

Hmmm. The one thing I don't have for my old Tasco 4.5" dob is an eyepiece holder. I wonder....

Wrapped the tent pegs around the bit, cut them, drilled some holes....I squeezed the curved ends in under the bolts with vise grips, put on the nuts and washers underneath, then smoothed down the rough parts and washed it off. Very solid.

    02.jpg

It holds my three most used lenses for my old Tasco 4.5" dob, which does not have an eyepiece holder. Yet

    3.jpg

And that killed an hour and a bit. I guess I'll go mount it on the base; it's only just 9PM here. Clouds and rain predicted for the next week... sigh. I actually hope work is busy

    Have a good day/night, all!!

But I have to ask.....what in the world has that hole-saw been ahold of? Looks like some of my bits after one those grabby wrist-breaker events.

wow nicely done Mark Here I just cleaned my garage out and set up the GEM and the CPC 1100 on roller skates. I got the 3 wheel dollies from Harbor Freight and placed the monster Tripod of the CPC in the center holes now I can roll my CPC in and out of the garage with no problems at all. I really liked that.

Thanks all, though I was bored after making it, so making a post about it brought some cheer to me and a tear to you

Nice deal on the dolly, David. Hopefully Cloudzilla sees more than his name sake; what a year.

"grabby wrist-breaker events"... So well said, Frankie, I could not think of a better description! Just as the drill hits the really dense gnarly knot in the center of the beam....

Actually, what happened to that bit was it was introduced to some brick after going through the wood, and I honestly didn't feel the difference. Only when I pulled it out and saw the red "sawdust"... No matter, it was a cheap kit anyways.

I ended up finishing it off this morning, and I'm off to work after lunch. It's gonna be one of those weeks I can tell...

Here's some pictures of it finished and mounted on my 4.5". I put the brackets on last night, got everything lined up, and shot it with a few coats of clear. I was going to do this tonight, but work has other plans...

    Image1.png Image2.png Image3.png Image4.png Image5.png

I was going to put it on the front of the rocker box, as is typical, but after trying it out and realizing the way I sit at it, on the side is just easier to grab, and my knees will hit the rocker box first. Personal preference; that's one good thing about DIY. I also only used the two brackets on the side for mounting with bolts; the middle one, there was no point. I just left it there for stability...

    Have a good day everybody!

Those $4.99 dollies work great on a concrete floor with a concrete drive makes it easy to leave Cloudzilla set up...As for Clouds Cloudzilla has brought some along with Fraczilla (new scope and mounts will do that).

Hi Mark. Sorry to come in late here. I have had health issues this week, and I am just now catching up. You did a great job of putting household stuff to great use here. And, you did amazing work to make quite functional articles from these. Thanks for your post Mark, and the excellent photographs too.
