    Default CDN Dollar crashing

Dollar has dropped again. Day before yesterday was going to order a few accessories and once I saw the exchange rate of .25 cents I cancelled it and ordered the same stuff on Amazon.ca and saved $15. Today its now .30 cents exchange rate. Problem is for a while been wanting to get a GEM setup with an AR127 and have been hoping the rates would get better, instead its getting worse so unless I get a windfall, not going to bother any more.
I bought my XT8i for $600 2 years ago, now its $840, so when money is tight some things on my wish list has sailed
Wondering if anybody else has had the same issues, I guess any Canadians.

My thoughts exactly Neil. I have watched prices at Canadian Telescopes skyrocket as the dollar falls. Sure puts a damper on wanting to buy new toys.

    Its not only Canadians Neil.

Even out here in SA we have the same problem.
I might see a good deal today and by the time I have cash in hand the price has gone sky high because of the exchange rate.
At the moment(today) the Rand is trading at R12.61 to the Dollar!

So I feel your pain and a bit more!

    Cheers

    Tell me about it!

I have a lathe on order from the US and with the dollar crashing, price of it is skyrocketing.
I'm wishing now that I had paid in full rather than just the required 20% deposit.

Hi Neil. As Clinton said, it is not just in Canada. Our US stock market is down, the metals commodities are down, oil is down, but the food prices in the grocery stores, and other equipment (astronomical or not) are way up. Thanks for your post Neil, and I guess we'll all have to see what the future holds for us.

    Tell me about it.

Aside from astronomy stuff I want (filters, eyepiece, oh maybe a professionally made 8-10" dob to replace my borrowed homebuilt)
almost no hobby supplies of any sort are available in Canada, so one of my other projects (FPV drone aircraft with a couple miles range) has jumped from a budget of $500 to $700 and looks like it's going to be on hold until the dollar recovers.

And, right now I'm trying to get hold of some cheap 2m radios to replace a broken unit.
Amazon.com: $USD20 and free shipping (but not to Canada) or $USD20+ extra for shipping.
Amazon.ca: $CAD80 from a questionable seller with a one star rating.

Seeing how they all ship from HK/China I don't see why we can't get the same prices and shipping here in the land of the rip-off.

    I still found https://www.hobbyking.com a good buy.
Allot wont ship to Canada from the US because of shipping, when people realized the shipping was more then the product they cancelled the order (besides the exchange rate), so they wrote off Canada.

Australia is the same too. Gone from a $1.10 to $.73 in the dollar, plus the government want to impose a tax on imports above $20 (currently tax is incurred above $1000). We've had it good for a while I guess :-/

I"m sorry for how it's impacting you but as others have mentioned, it's everywhere to some extent. Frankly, the entire world is in poor shape financially and no one seems to want to deal with the problems (or just don't know what to do!).

However, the forecast in Savannah, GA is for clear skies tomorrow night (first time in a while ) so I'm not going to let the world economy get me down this weekend.
