    Default No Video woahs

    Here I sit clouds enshrouded
Tried my camera but only pouted
Scope & MallinCam set and loaded
Only to ponder what would've unfolded

Eleven days since my Extreme arrived
and I can barely see how I have survived
Dark skies gone since making my purchase
Please forgive me it's wasn't my purpose

Ah Rick, there's no sense whining,
With new gear, no silver lining.
Before you know it clouds will part,
And your video adventure can start.

No longer fearful of dreaded LP
So many more "sparklies" you'll see.
Then, only one question there will be,
Why oh why did I delay trying AV?

    Clear skies, my BIC!

    Thanks Bob.....

Now my next question. I did start up the MallinCam and locked in on a lighted billboard. It worked wonderfully. However I was afraid to switch back and forth in video modes and I also changed the FR to try out it's ability. Is it OK to keep the camera running and pull it out of the visual back to change focal reducers or spacers? It did seem to hurt it in any way but after doing this I thought maybe I shouldn't have. Thanks for any advice.

Bob if I ever get to see a star through this camera I think I will love it. I cannot believe I've had 11-12 days of straight clouds. Yesterday until noon today the forecast was for completely clear skies, so I have been anticipating tonight. The clouds stayed and at 1500 the forecast changed to partly cloudy, that is OK. Then an hour ago I looked and the forecast is mostly cloudy. The ClearSky chart totally went light and here I am again in the clouds. Same thing happened yesterday. I really don't like weather forecasters anymore.

Well enough whining has paid of a little. Me and my wife went for a walk at 8:00 and while out I noticed a small break in the clouds and by the time we returned home half the sky was cleared. Woooooooooooo

I fired up the MallinCam and laptop and presto. I now have an image to look at. I got in M42, M31 and Jupiter before the clouds returned. M42 looked very good, M31 not so much, but what I expected. Jupiter looked lousy but I realized I didn't remove the focal reducer...duh. Overall I'm happy. I was worried it would take several attempts to get an image but not so. I think I'm really going to like this camera.

I promise to stop complaining, maybe.....

I've learned to study this cloud map in the evenings.
Eastern U. S. - Visible Loop (Flash) - Satellite Services Division/Office of Satellite Data Processing and Distribution

Now that I'm getting a solar filter, I'll have to start watching it during the daytime too..
Maybe someday the clouds will go away for a few hours..

Tomorrow night, we have this: The Year's "Strangest" Meteor Shower to Radiate Near the North Star - AccuWeather.com

For all those folks who have a PolarScope on their mounts.
It would be great to make a video of some meteors, but the cloud-cast says that's not gonna happen..

This has been the first Winter Solstice in many years, when I didn't get to look outside at
the longest shadows of the year.. Hard to do, when the clouds are so thick all the time..
