It has been found that the majority of amature astronomers are in the 50+ range. There is a newly organized group of business owners, educators and professionals that have come together to form the x Foundation. It's goal is to help promote, educate and recruit younger people to join this hobby. The target is schools, K thru 12, youth groups and organizations and generations X and Y. We should all help to support their efforts. I do multiple outreach and public viewings a month trying to get young people their first taste of astronomy.
To answer your question, I'm a very healthful, active, and physically fit 63 year old.
Sorry for the commercial,
Stan

Stan appreciate your input but we have a great foundation here and are quite social ourselves here for a long while. Please do read the site rules and community etiquette before you post any further links as its clearly off topic to the main thread starter's question.
Myself I just turned 34 but was involved in astronomy since 14. Only one in my family crazy enough to go into -30C weather to view the stars with a 7x35 binocular but still was exciting for me. Maybe we should have a poll?
cheers

Retired, also have 2 other hobbies

2. make a heck of a lot of sawdust in my wood shop.
I'm 55
I've mentioned this before, and it is only my personal opinion, but I think part of the reason a lot of amateur astronomers are 50+ is culture. When I was growing up we were in a race to the moon. The race into space and growth of NASA gathered lots of attention. Today that sort of attention is directed toward technology and environmental concerns.
Another reason could be stage in life. Astronomy can be solitary and expensive. Many of us showed an interest in it when we were younger and really jumped into it when our children were grown.

Current Project: Studying meteors (ironically, I don't need a telescope for this)
Scopes: Orion XT10, Dob / ES ED80T on Orion Sirius Mount / Celestron 114mm goto / Orion 90mm Mak-Cass / 50 mm Galileoscope refractor / Celestron 8" SCT / 10X50 binoculars / 12X60 binoculars
I'm 40, but in astronomy i am just a little baby
64 here.
Got my 1st scope in the 50's while in 3rd grade. Lived on farm in upstate NY (Saratoga Region).
Clear skies was the greatest then.
I've been interested ever since then.
