    Default Amazing Iceland!!!!

I've been in Iceland for a couple days and this place is just amazing! Already met up with a local astronomer here and he's a really great guy.

I got to do a tour of the south coast out to Jokulsarlon yesterday so here's a few pics form that. I've only been here since Thursday and already have close to 1000 pictures and haven't even really begun exploring the rest of the country yet.

    Urriđafoss waterfall

Eyjafjallajkull, yes THAT volcano from last year. I get to climb that bad boy on Saturday

Seljandfoss waterfall. This one is cool because you can actually walk in behind it

Rock formations and columnar basalt at Vik

Not sure which waterfall this is as the guide was not too sure either. We found it along the way while driving towards Skatafell.

    Glacier at Skatafell National Park

Jkulsrln glacial lagoon. This place is just amazing. There were quite a few seals in the lagoon. There's an outlet out to the north atlantic ocean so some ice goes though there and washes up on shore. These are just a few of the unedited pictures form there. I gotta go through the rest of my memory cards.

Svartifoss waterfall in Skatafell National Park

Mountain range and glacier in Skatafell National Park

Skogafoss waterfall at night. We did not make it back in time during daylight so had to do tripod mounted longer exposures.

Seljandfoss at night on the way back to Reykjavik. Our guide has never seen this at night and thought we should stop by it. Quite beautiful lit up at night.

So far no Northern lights though. We haven't really been lucky with clear skies except I did notice it was clear this morning at 1 in the morning but I was participating in the weekend pub crawl in Reykjavik so was not really in any shape to go out looking for them.

Thanks guys. Looks like tonight is looking extremely promising. Clear skies and spaceweather forcast looks extremely good for auroras. Just getting ready to head out to an an astronomy class observing session so fingers crossed we get a good light show.

While you are there, go to the site where a foot bridge crosses the Atlantic drift. That crack in the earth seems to down forever.

Ooh, that was nice! Brought back a few memories of our trip there a few years back - we'd been to a few of the same places, like that waterfall you can go behind (did you get nice and wet? We were already soaked when we got there, after our brilliant but crazy tour guide took us somewhere not exactly "safe" and we had to wade through a river to get back to the bus..)

It's a fantastic country, I want to go back in the next few years. We'll probably spend a few weeks and get a camper van and go all the way round the island.

Good luck with the northern lights!
