Silly misconceptions you've heard about astronomy
You all know it, the facepalm kind of situations when you can hardly believe your ears. We've all heard some, so let's share the most shocking, silly or plain stupid ones.
Part of a weather forecast talking about the effects of the full moon on people:
"...the Sun and the Moon are on the opposite side...and when the Earth is between these two planets, we tend to feel..."
Saddest thing is this was on TV.Celestron SkyMaster 15x70

My sister, pointing at a VERY bright light low to the South-west.....
Sis - "That must be the North star"
Me - "Erm, nope, North is that way..." (as I point North)
Sis - "So why is it called the North star if it isn't North..???
(As you prob guessed - it was Venus
)
