Beers won't hurt anything. I always work on a "Copy"....just in case I screw up.
Here is one thing I do.

In PS I create another layer of the same image and work on the top layer. Make sure the top layer is active.
Then open the 'Filter' dropdown, then 'Stylize', and select 'Find Edges', for your top layer, which should be the active layer now..
Go to the palette window and click in the drop down that says 'Normal".
You can now select 'Multiply'. This now becomes a transparency overlay of the original image.

This will outline the shapes in the image, craters and shadows, and from here you can adjust this in the 'Opacity' setting to fine tune your image with this top layer. Then you go to 'Image adjustment' and tune the exposure in this top layer. You will be seeing both layers because you are now seeing through the top layer. You can toggle the top layer off and on so see the subtle changes. If you like, select the image and copy "Merged" then open a new window labeling it as you wish, and drop in your augmented image. You have not damaged the original. This is a way that I add contrast without blowing out the highlights.

When you close the original two layer page you can either not save the changes or save them in a psd file which you can go back to any time you want. At this point you have not altered your original image data. It will still be in your file and you will have one psd image of it plus the new augmented image which you would have given a name when you created the new window to drop it into. When you save the selection of it merged you have made a new set of data.

Maybe this is useless, but I offer it for your experimentation. Just make sure you are working on a copy and the top layer.
    Cheers to the Beers!

Thank you for posting Star Blazer.
I am no expert, but I think I like the earlier versions better. I feel like this one has a bit too much color. Thats just my opinion.

I wanted to catch a shot of the young moon tonight but I am clouded in here. And it looks like it may be this way for a while.
I hope your skies are better.
    Cheers.

That looks very good Allison. Wow!
That is a nice snapshot if Orion! I like it. What cell phone did you use?
    Thank you.

I just went and looked again, Allison. Your image has some dark lanes in it and I can see the texture on the nebula cloud. This is pretty darn good. I mean its a cell phone for crying out loud. I am personally impressed with how good this looks. Please tell me what you did to capture this.

    Hello Mark,

Glad you liked it! I used my 8" dob and a Samsung S8, with an EP support and 1 sec exposure time.

This phone has up to 10 seconds of exposure, but more than 1 and the picture became too blurry, without any tracking.

Well, I had given up taking pictures of DSOs with it. I guess I'll try to snap Carina, at least. You gave me more courage to try

    High guys ,

this a 1st attempt @ stacking frames imaged with an iPhone 5 & economy reflector

This image is a stack of around 30 frames recorded from video on the iPhone 5 and Wavelet adjusted in Registax

I couldn't stack any more than 30 frames due to rotation & no tracking on my mount just turns out as a blurry image ....LOL

    Comments & *post processing welcome!

    Cheers!
