are the sailor stars (seiya etc) are they boys? i thought they were girls? like they wear hotpants etc? wtf is this i meen i need ya help plz help lol thanx in advance

In the anime, they are both. They are boys at school and when they perform, but they transform into girls.

In the manga they are girls but disguise themselves as men; but in the anime, they are really men when they aren't transformed as sailors. This actually upset the creator of Sailor Moon, Naoko Takeuchi, who wanted all the sailors to be women.
