The software/firmware was a bit of a problem when they first came out - they seem to have it licked now.
I have basically the same OTA on my LX90 - and I like it just fine.
The different mount makes it a bit less likely to cause problems - though it is not as modern as theLS8

In Defense of Jennifer....(and she honestly does not need any ...)

NOBODY ever questioned the Optics on the Meade LS scopes... they are fine... But honestly the electronics has been an issue from day one ..which it seems Meade has for the most parts finally have got the bugs worked out....

Also many backyard astronomers suffered from the same mentality as the "old" timers did when GoTo scopes first came out.. That is always going to be the case ...My own personal opinion is I can handle everything BUT I do not think I would liek a scope that talks back to me... heck that is one reason I enjoy observing alone ...LOL

Ya Got a good scope..just enjoy the darn thing... and the picture is pretty impressive in my opinion...

Sorry if my curiousity has caused a riff. I was only asking as I thought maybe I was in the wrong place. I did feel a bit of a jab but I am a big boy.

I am a noobie but the wife isn't. We have a Meade 2080. I want to meld my photographic interest into a hobby my wife and I can do together during our retirement. Her pointing to the stars meant nothing to me. The software helps me and our 10 yr old understand. So I am a fine example of the LS8 bringing new ppl to the hobby. I must admit however to turning the voice off many times. )

The mount is the least stable. I understood that when I bought it. The LS8 OTA quality is above out Ancient 2080. I like challenges and hope to take a few photographs that might surprise those who think it is impossible with the "one armed bandit" mount.

My plans are, as I learn, to move onto a Refractor for Astrophotography. As long as my interest and the encouragement of others stay.

    Thanks
    Chuck

    Hi Chuck,
I think they said it well, initially some users had issues with the mount and software, although most newly released electronic mounts do. By no means did they mean to offend you, we think it is a great scope and the software has been getting better.

I think the goto, software with the LS8, and new ideas are amazing so I am happy you joined us to share your thoughts of it here. Do you have the screen for it?

Don't worry you will get a lot of encouragement here for astrophotography and I believe you made an amazing start!

please do post more of your shots soon
    clear skies!!
