I know I know the cosmonauts of the past didn't explore Mercury enough to answer this question. but a non human space shuttle could PLOP into the oil? or maybe a tether plastic solid that when goes to Mecuries south pole then could be heated by heliostat then turn into a polymerized liquid several different layers of thinkness to the oil on the landing pool then first layer would be very soft then lower into the pool would get thicker and thicker until a safe landing of the material could be acheived a thick polymer of plastic having the upper layer being like foam since it would have air bubbles then lower down less air be pumped into the oil |
