Cheers for the link Declan! I think I'll make this my next investment! I need to get a decent camera first though! Would you have any suggestions? I think I could manage around £250 (300 euro)! Its cold and cloudy here

I have only gotten into astronomy in the past year or so aswell, although when I was a child I read alot about the solar system and the universe. I rekindled my love for it when I was in a dark sky area in Wales last summer; I just couldn't believe that I could see the Milky Way with the naked eye.

For my birthday this summer I bought a 5.1" Newtonian telescope which has faired me well! All summer I was following Jupiter and trying to find deep sky objects. The only success I've had was the Orion Nebula though! I've also had the scope on Mars and Saturn, but I generally focus on finding clusters when I'm not searching for anything in particular. Its a very worthwile hobby, and I hope to get into astrophotography this summer when I've finished uni!

    Chat to you soon!

ps. I cant send PMs untill I have 30 posts lol!

Hi Dublin (although Id rather call you by your real name; whatever that may be!)

Things are good with me! I'm not in Ireland at the minute, I'm in my final year of study across the water in England so unfortunetly during term time I don't have my scope But any time I'm home I have the scope out whenever the clouds aren't in the way!

My home is actually in the Inishowen Peninsula.! The skys are pretty dark up those ways, but if you ever get the chance you should visit Ballyliffin as it is a black spot on the light pollution map. The clearest skys I've ever seen!

How has your gazing been lately? I've been following the usual Winter suspects with the naked eye; and ofcourse Mars!
