I'll find out sometime this weekend as I just bought one. I was looking at the LX200s and discounted the LS as being like the other ETX scopes (decent but fairly flimsy etc). Saw it in my local shop today and played around with it - the thing is like a tank! Metal worm gears, built in imager/guider, and, best of all, the girlfriend can actually operate it!

    Yes, I bought it.

So far I haven't been able to get a GPS fix from my back yard but I was close to the house and the view is pretty restricted so its not surprising it can't lock onto four satellites.

I've also had zero luck in figuring out how to get an image from the CCD over the USB cable. Not sure its even possible (comms is set to 9600 baud so it'd take a long time for a pic anyway).

I did have a tiny break in the clouds just big and long enough that the auto-align could fix on Vega but the other stars were completely obscured so no real chance there. The fact it found Vega when I could only see it through binoculars due to cloud cover is impressive.

Its uber cool clicking on an object in mySky and telling the scope to slew to it. Of course I can't check and see if it really did point there or not thanks to the clouds...

Not much more to report than that. Don't have a little TV to hook to the video out and haven't got a miniSD card handy so I can't see what the CCD output looks like.

Indeed, i have read mixed reviews on this scope however I am still seriously picking one up as it would be great for public star parties. And I have been asked by my old high school science teachers to help out with the astronomy program in their courses so this scope if it's all it lives up to be would be great for that.

I don't have one but have read the reviews that seemed mixed. The scope design/features are very ingenius. I too would think they would offer a 8" model but assume that depends on the success of the 6" model.

Anyone say how the quality of imaging is with this scope?

    The optics are great!

I have only the ETX-127 to compare to but the LS shows stars as definite pinpoints right to the edge of view using the supplied 26mm EP. I saw the Ring Nebula last night as a fuzzy ball from my exceptionally light polluted backyard even with my neighbour's 10,000,000 watt lamp blasting away. Although blobby, it was a focused fuzzy blob rather than a furry fuzzy blob 8)

Supposed to be clear tonight so I'm hoping to do a proper auto align and see if this baby really works as advertised.

Got the GPS to work in my backyard (had to move away from the house) but it's alignment didn't work very well. I did train the drives earlier that day and after one bad alignment session I centered the finder and tried again. Alignments were still off and the targets didn't appear in the 26mm EP.

It worked for one hour then crashed with a firmware error and required reloading the firmware. Talked to mead as I couldn't get the scope to update via USB and the update software refused to see my mini-SD card. Managed to start a firmware update but the update software crashed after 10 seconds and wouldn't reconnect.

I exchanged the paddle at the scope store and tried again (its a 2.5 hours round trip during rush hour) but the scope remains bricked - its the base that's screwed, not the paddle.

Heading back again today (should be less than an hour drive since its the weekend and early) to exchange the scope and then praying it actually works when I get to the Merritt Star Quest today.

So far I'm thinking I'll be getting a refund and going for a different scope/brand. I've no faith that the second LS will function all weekend or be able to align itself etc. I hope I'll be surprised but by this experience and reading about everyone else I'm not optomistic.
