Haven't heard of it!? Amazon claims; "The Meade 114EQ-DH4 4.5-inch Equatorial Starfinder Reflecting Telescope is one of the finest telescope values available anywhere. The Meade optical system includes a superb, hand-figured parabolic primary mirror constructed from low-expansion, fine-annealed Pyrex glass." Actually, I'm surprised to learn that any Meade 4.5 Newt had anything but a spherical primary mirror. Now I'm going to have to put all my 4.5 mirrors up on the Foucault tester and look for parabolic figures.

What you have is a up market 4.5" (114mm) 910mm focal length f/8 Newtonian. The German mount is the heavier of the two Meade sold this sized tube on. It has the DH motor drives which are capable of goto operation when controller by the Starfinder or Autostar hand controllers.

A very similar model is the Meade 4504, which was exclusively sold by Costco. It had the cheaper spherical mirror and was a different color, but operates the same. 4504 manual here: http://tinyurl.com/brqaox

If you check out Bill Vorce's (telescopewarehouse) on eBay he sells a Meade #70focuser for about $15. If your focuser has the metal thread off eyepiece holder the #70 should thread right on. If you have the focuser with the large chromed plastic drawtube, Bill has the 2" eyepiece adapter for under a buck. You will need a 2 to 1.25" adapter to use "American Standard" (1.25") eyepieces. Even inexpensive 1.25" eyepieces will make a world of difference in you scope's perfomance.

George, just for your future reference, you don't need to use tinyurl on this site if you don't want to. You can just drop any link of any size straight into your post and the software here will automatically resize it
