Default Found Great Lower Cost Bluetooth Setup For Meade Scopes

I wanted to set up BT on my Meade LX65 and ETX models. I grabbed a serial BT adapter off of Amazon from Iomega and it did not work. I had to send it back.

There was no way I could access the adaptor settings to set the Baud rate to 9600 or anything else for that matter. The drivers were old, the last one made for Windows 8. No Support on the website other than the user manual. Which is meh.

So I ordered a Gozens module with an internal antenna https://www.amazon.c...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and a Monoprice Null Modem https://www.amazon.c...1?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I set it up to use with the Meade #505 cable. I initially used it on my ETX90, 70, and 125 using an Audiostar and a 497 controller. It was then tested on the LX65 and works great as well with the same #505 cable.I did not test it with a 507 or other, so assuming the Null Moden is straight pass through theoretically it should still work.

I use SkySafari 6 Pro on an android.

It found the connection, found the proper scope as set up in the SkySafari settings, and it was able to manually slew on all scopes and controllers.

The Align I did with a mock alignment inside the house and it worked fine.

Total cost was just a couple pennies under 60 bucks shipped.

Now..I also have some TalentCell portable 6000aH supplies I use for my Celestrons. However it only comes with the Y cable and both are 2.1mm, they fit Celestron fine but Meade uses a 2.5mm size.

    So I found these: https://www.amazon.c...1?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They convert it perfectly. The great part on the TalentCell is it has a USB port that powers to Gozens module, and the Y cable can power the scope. And still leaves 1 power connection for other stuff. Velcro it on and no cord wrap issues or tripping on cables. In Summer weather I get more hours from that supply than I use, and have gotten 2 hours from it in -22 F. Supply costs 33 bucks on Amazon as well.

As an added bonus..the Gozens comes with a small connector and 2 wires you can solder onto a battery and use like that as well, but the USB off the TalentCell is just as good.

You use a USB to serial adapter to connect the BlueTooth to a PC. Then use a dumb tty terminal program and you can issue AT commands to the BT to set the baud rate, turn off echo, etc...

I bought one of these BlueTooth adapters, a Female to Female Null modem connector and then picked up a 6700mAh USB cell phone battery booster from the bin at Walmart for under $5. Stuffed it in one of the small ziplock plastic container my wife had. Total cost under $20. Works with both my Orion Atlas mounts and Meade LXD55 mounts.
