Default Computer control of my Meade LX200 upgrade (with the audiostar handset)

Now that the colder weather is with us I am keen to master this so that I can control my viewing from the relative warmth of my garden conservatory. However I am struggling to achieve this and looking for some guidance. I have the cable connector from the bottom of the handset which I have connected into a USB port on my pc via male and female serial connectors and am attempting to use Stellarium as the view control system.
There are a couple of good utube guides which I've followed, but despite managing to load my scope onto the Stellarium system, I cannot get it to operate from the pc. I am sure there will be several members who have gone through all this and I'd be pleased to hear of any success stories.

I have done this with my AudioStar controller but first tell me about your LX200 downgrade to a AudioStar controller ? how and why did you do that?

Ok I have seen how its done : with a replacement panel and then setting the gear ratio at 3000. The AudioStar is not my favorite controller because of the bugs in it's firmware and incompatibility with AutoStar 6.0 software, But there's ways around those problems. The first thing you should do is see if you can connect with AutoStar 6.0 via your serie port. Check your firmware : if you have A4S1, AutoStar will not recognize it and will want to install 43e firmware ...dont let it! if it can connect via the port there should not be any problems.

Hi Piet, I had major problems with my original LX200 - the pc board under the fork had a fault. I am sure you appreciate the difficulties in repairing/replacing components in these 1990s models - there are plenty threads which give the detail. The optimum way out was the George Dudash upgrade and I opted for the Audiostar controller instead of the standard Autostar unit. Quite simply it was the best move I ever made. All my eyepieces (including some expensive zoom lenses) are now redundant as I never use them. The 8" tablet screen mounted on my OTA (I upgraded from the 7" one supplied) means I can show others (and even amaze my OH!) the color detail of many galaxies and nebulae while not needing to worry about background lighting or red light districts. I normally have the Audiostar set on "voice on demand", otherwise it is exactly the same as an Autostar. It's quite impressive when used at star parties.

It has it's good points and if you want to write your own tours and download them to the AudioStar I can help you with that. But first what firmware version does it display when it boots? And can you connect with the Autostar 6 software or non Meade, My Scope software?
