Default Alignment: Easy vs. 2 Star

Which is a more accurate alignment, easy or 2 star? With the easy alignment, is "level" and "north" accurate? Downside of 2 star is my determination of level and north have to be accurate but the upside is that I can pick bright stars that are in my field of vision. Thanks, Dave

I always had better accuracy using the two star method. I use a small 10" bubble level and can see Polaris as a visual marker for north. Put the scope on Polaris and use the hand control to point the scope down from there until it is level. This is very accurate and start the two star alignment process from here.

Hey, I have an EQ35 Pro Goto and I have problems with 2-star alignment. Second star is allways above the Western horizon which is blocked by my house... What can I do?

Other problem is that the goto is way off at first star alignment but maybe I can remedie that with releasing the clutches and set the tube to the first alignment star manually then tighten the clutches again.

Mount is align carefully and the tube is in the parking position before turning the thing on.

The difference between the easy and two star methods when using a Meade AudioStar or AutoStar is that with the "Easy" the controller pics the two stars that's available ideally the two brightest, 180° apart and at a height of 60°. But if you cannot view these stars you can pick your own two stars with the "Two Star" method. If I have picked the easy method and discover that one is behind a tree, I just press "Enter" and then "Goto" to a known star and long press "Enter" and sync on that star when it's centered in the eyepiece.

The scope has to be set up level and pointing north the same whether you use easy or two star alignment. The more accurate you set up the closer you’ll be to the first star. The autostar then makes corrections once you centre the first star so the second should be close to field of view. If you select easy and the autostar picks a star that is hidden behind something, press the down arrow at the bottom of the autostar and it will recalculate and pick another. You dont have to wait for it to finish slewing, you can press again if you dont like that one. If you have limited view of the sky get a phone app like skysafari AR (which is free) work out which stars are bright and visable then do a two star alignment scrolling through the autostar list to find the stars you chose.
