    Default New LX85 Mount?

Stats make it look similar to Celestron's Advanced VX ... but for $100 less.

    Thoughts, comments???

Here is a video of the mount:

    https://youtu.be/vWU_d-RoCB8

I don't think I'd want to be one of the first folks to get one. I'd let it ride for a year or two to see what kind of bugs shake out of it.

    Nice looking mount though.

It looks good, I have a LX90 and are starting to think about doing astrophotography. Converting my scope to a polar mount will be expensive and it will not be as well balance as this one. The unbelievable part of the LX85 is that they are considering to pair it with the AudioStar controller! A device witch is still totally incompatible with the AutoStar updater especially with the new A4S1 firmware which does not contain this new LX85 mount so I expect that this new mount would have to be shipped with even newer firmware which the AutoStar would also be unable to recognise. This would mean that, like every other product that they paired with the AudioStar, everything they claimed the AudioStar can do like being updated and downloading your own tours via AutoStar Updater, would again be false advising.
But lets be positive : with the LX85 they will ship a new "AudioStar updater " that will solve all the problems !
One year of astronomy and totally hooked!

Well I always thought the LXD75 got tainted by the 55. My 75 has run for a about 8 years now and when properly aligned (and its pretty easy to do if you center the aliment scope and do a couple of alignments following the alignment error messages). It handles my 102 triplet and C8 really well. Now that I am really only doing EAA I can put everything on the very small ZWO224 chip with the high precision alignment. Balance is very easy due to the bearing on both axis. Yep, some problems with the early ones, but by the time the ones with the 2" legs were shipping the set screws were holding.

It will be interest to see how the 85 preforms. Keeping my 75 until it dies, but my piggy bank is getting fattened up for an iOptron 30 Product just for the sound reduction on slewing

As an early adaptor of the CGX-L mounts and the CGX mounts in general I have to whole heartedly agree with this!

However someone has to find those bugs no?

It seems to me the consensus is don't sign up to be a Meade beta tester!

I guess Meade is willing to pay you $100 to be beta test the LX85 as it seems to have a bit more weight capacity than the Celestron Advanced VX and similar features, but the AVX is going for $899, while the LX85 is only $799. I still don't have the money for that.

I am really interested in this one too but I’m going to wait for some first hand, real world reviews to start showing up. Apparently they just started shipping the first, limited run of units so hopefully we’ll get some info soon.
I like what I see so far though... hope it lives up to the initial hype.

I have to say, I can’t believe how poorly Meade is handling this product release. From the initial ads released in the spring saying summer 2018, then pushed to October, now it’s mid December and still no one has any of the LX85 series in stock and there are no user reviews out there yet. Meade’s website still says shipping in October. Their Facebook page doesn’t have any news on them either. I found one person last week on Cloudyskies that has one but only because his local dealer was the Meade rep for a show and he got the show demo unit.

I am probably looking to buy something in the March/April timeframe but was hoping to see some more real user reviews before then. It’s very disappointing... we’ll see if there’s any change going into the new year but I’ll be looking at all the other options I think.

This is fairly typical of the last few years for manufacturers.
Tooling of parts, QA/QC specifications, programming issues can all lead to unexpected delays from original release dates.

I would rather something be overdue than have it rushed into production so I can beta test it after I purchased it.

If you look at the LX80 and LX800 history, Meade failed on both ends. They where excessively late getting the mounts to market from when they promised them and then the quality wasn't there either.
