Sounds like you have done all you can, at this point if the play dosen't bother you id just use it & enjoy it. Once the play catches up to the movement direction no prob. Just don't expect concise go-tos with play in the drive base. Other then that just takes a bit more time to use it, I found on a base with play that using faster speeds helped to overcome this prob then moved to slower speeds like 3 on the keypad to tweak etc..& set the handset for max response. If you find you really like the scope & handset you can always upgrade to a ver11 base or move onto a different scope/mount setup.
I had mine setup with a nice Orion 80ED but ...........caught aperture fever so after all my work I sold it & purchased a Z8. The buyer is a happy camper tho.
Its probably wear on the gears............only thing left to try is to bend the spring to apply more pressure to the drive arm. That may help but I wouldn't bank on it.

Astronut has just about said it all. I can't add anything other that if you are getting closetos, use the spiral search pattern. It's a little slow but will often find the object.

Yes - it works, but no "goto". I'm wondering if it is worth the $70 for a Gen2 replacement base?

The street price for a new DS2130AT is about $280-$300. I don't know what Meade is charging for a new generation II base at the moment. You can contact Meade's store store@meade.com or telephone them 800 626 3233

Default Re: DS-2130 motor problem - disassembly??

Hi, just bought my DS2130 (used). The AZ motor seem to be binding. Want to fix before the gears wear out.

if I understand the procedure you used to expose the motor, with the AZ bolt undone, you simply put the motor back on the tripod, screwed it down using the bolt at the bottom and then pulled the top. Does the top come off with the Altitude motor.

I've hooked up a nice 12V Radio Shack power supply with extension cable to the unit. Motors love the power.

So I took the base apart. I mounted the unit in the tripod, screwed it down and pulled the top off. Easy.

Two large slotted plastic bushings are in good shape. Worm gear and other gears seem fine.

Found the wobble. Three large screws that attach the main arm were loose. Screws have a very coarse thread. No more wobble.

Now to figure out why there is so much play - delay between right and left movement.

And get this thing back together.

Looks like the bushings and gears need some lube?? What do you prefer?
