Default My ZEQ25GT never fails me.

Finally able to capture Andromeda with the Z mount I love the fall! Only 2 unacceptable images out of 26 using PHD to guide for this image bring on ISON!

Nice Image. I just got my ZEQ25 about a week and a half ago. I've done a little autoguiding with my QHY5II Mono and PHD. I find it really easy to set up. I got a few images of M31 on my first try, but only about 5 4min subs. I was having computer problems, which I have since solved, so hope to get some nice images soon. I think it's going to be a nice mount for me.
    Thanks for sharing your photo.

Many thanks Dave and congrats on the new mount. You made a good choice. How are you connecting the computer to the mount? I have found i can only use USB 2.0 ports when using a serial converter thru the handset. USB 3 fails everytime.

I haven't connected the mount to the computer, just the autoguider. I did 17 4 minutes images last night and had to throw out 7 of them due to bad guiding. I attribute it to operator error. I still need to get to know the PHD software better. If only it was still Summer..

My one word of advice Dave is to get an FTDI serial converter when you do link to a computer. No connection issues ever as long as you use usb 2.0 ports

Default First Light with ZEQ25 & Mallincam VRC6

Not sure this is the right place to post this.
Not the most interesting one, but here it goes my first EQ mount
and being overly excited (to put it mildly) I take the mount outside.
Set it up facing North get as close as I can to polar aligned, according to

    the
handset & polar scope. Put the counter weight on at a marked spot on the shaft

grab the VRC6 try to see the mark on the dovetail bar (very hard to do with
this scope (need to figure something out to be able to hang on to the scope
    and look at the dovetail)
Finally get it on, great away we go do a one star aling can't find the star
battery in the finder that came with the scope is dead. Find the star it was
not far off, VRC6 is much smaller FOV then my Sky watcher 102 ACRO.
Return to zero power off grab hand control realize I forgot to power on,power
on goto M27 a bit off again find M57 take a few pics and am really happy.
Now packing it all up I see in my slight excitement I only put one counter
weight on instead of the two it needs. As for the goto's being off I see the
mount moved a bit when putting the scope on so PA was off.
I must say that after all the dumb things I did I had the most fun I’ve had
since I married my little lady.
    I love my Z.
I skipped a lot to keep it kinda short.

I have had this on my desktop for about 2 months now thinking this is to
stupid to put on the forum, and realized that other beginners like me should
know that its ok to be excited (maybe not as bad as I was)

Oh I would like to thank Astronewb,Leveye, kszakonyi, sxinias, fogfire,
and pretty much everyone on the forum for all the help and knowledge I have

    gained.

    A couple of pic's

Congrats on the new Z mount Peppy2!! Awesome first lights as well. Your on your way! Don't forget to put a fresh battery in your hand controller if you haven't already. And think about getting the counterweight extension bar if you're going to exceed 10 lbs in scope and camera. Glad i could help you in your buying decision and make it a bit easier like Paul did with me. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask. Look up!

    I love my Z
I've had mine since early last year, and I still love it. It's fun to use, even when you do make those silly mistakes during setup, because it's so easy to recover from them.

It's not a perfect mount, the polar scope illuminator is a bit flakey at times and failure rates on it are high, the HC battery needs replacement almost immediately (as Leveye noted) and the 8408 hand controller is not as full featured as it's big brother the 8407 HC. The polar scope can't be adjusted by the user since the adjusting screws are buried within the RA bore. But these niggling issues are minor compared to the issues that other mounts are experiencing, and iOptron's support is outstanding.

Excellent M57 capture, just a tad of DEC trailing in the starfield, no doubt caused by moving the mount when attaching the ota. Hint, attach the ota, balance in DEC, then in RA. Then polar align, turn the mount off and back on and do a One Star alignment. Once your One Star align is centered, it's ready to slew to your first target, no need to go back to the Zero position until the end of the night (or to recheck your Polaris position after stubbing a tripod leg during the night).

Enjoy, and have a Happy New Year,
