Auto guiding with the iOptron has been a challenge for me for the past several days, so I decided to save others the frustration I went through.
The basic issue, is that there is no info in the User Guides or Owners manuals that specifically tell you how the autoguiding function works.
Any variation of the iOptron Cube series, Cube, Cube Pro, Mini Tower, Mini Tower Pro, Mini Tower II.
A suitable wedge or SmartStar A tripod.
A iOptron ST4 port adapter
A guide scope...pick your flavor.
Guiding software, PHD is free, and it works great.
You will need all the Ascom drivers from iOptron.
You will need the current Ascom platform.
Place your Cube in the EQ mode using the controller.
Do all the necessary setup routine and two star alignment.
Fire up PHD and connect to your guide cam and scope.
Now go to the Auto Guide menu in the iOptron controller and hit 'enter'. It will bring up the Guide Rate menu, you can select 1.0, .8, .6 or .4 times Sidereal. Hit the number button on the controller that corresponds to the rate you wish to select. Now hit 'enter'.
Do not exit the Auto Guide menu!!! If you do, you have just cancelled autoguiding. Let it sit there and blink at you all night, that means it's working.
Now you can start your PHD program and it will actually calibrate and start guiding.
Any time you exit the auto guiding menu to slew to another target or make any adjustments, it cancels auto guiding! Make sure you go back the to auto guiding menu, and select your guide rate and hit 'enter' and then just let the auto guide menu stay open.
That, my friends is what iOptron does not tell you, nor does any other forum that I could find. Which is why I wasted countless hours trying to get PHD to calibrate...which it won't.
