Default Italian Tower Observatory in Colorado Springs

I am 98% completed with my backyard observatory. The pier reaches 20ft high (to overlook my home to view Northen skys). We had about 150 for the open house. It houses my TeleVue 127IS on an iOptron CEM60-EC.

Very nice.... Is it stairs or an elevator to get to the top?
We had a member with an elevator to reach his. Sadly, he passed a couple of years ago.

    Hello Bryan,

that's an amazing architecture design for a private observatory!
Also, a nice first light party, you had.
Thanks for sharing the pics, and clear skies,

Very nice what part of Colorado Springs, lived there for 8-years? Looks like far northwest side of the city, Rockrimmon is my guess. My HOA would tell me to take a hike if I tried to do something like that guessing you don't have one, lucky you.

The windows have a 98% visual and IR absorption film on them. So light not a problem.
What is unique however is that I designed an electronic clamp system to lock the building to the pier when not doing AP.

You are right on! Near the entrance to Flying W Ranch. Also no HOA. I did have one person complain (verses about 200 really likes) that sent the building department down on me. What a hassle. Every conversation they changed their mind and added requirement. It took me nearly 4 months to get a structural engineer to agree with 80% of what I was doing. Being different causes all kinds of "problems".

An elevator would be great - especially as I get older. The hidden staircase is the best I could do at the moment.

Must have been some tense moments putting the dome on the structure. But, wow what a fantastic looking observatory! Nice work!
