Earth Day

So this Saturday we are having Earth Day early. This is because on the 22nd, NC is having a state wide star party. So this way we have two events. Who is planning an astronomy event for Earth Day ? Our astronomy club, The Crystal Coast Stargazers, will have two scopes set up for solar viewing for the public. We are going to set up at the NC Fort Macon State Park near Atlantic Beach, NC. If you are in the area come join us. Hours will be 10 am till 2 pm.

Thanks for the update. I didn't know anything about the 22nd. Due to my work schedule I haven't been able to attend any meetings of the Greensboro Astronomy Club, but I am hoping that will change when I get back to from from medical leave. I'd love to head down to Fort Macon, but not able to sit in a car to do any road trips for a while longer. I am going to see what is going on locally though.

We had a little over 50 people attend. About 12 were kids. Thankfully we had a clear night and people were amazed at Jupiter and the moons. With Orion setting so early now M42 gets washed out, but people still thought it was cool to see. I am thankful to Morehead Planetarium for sending us science kits to use with the public. It was a great night

That's a great turn out David! Glad to hear you had clear skies also. We got rained out here. I went over the the Greensboro Natural Science Center for the Greensboro Astronomy Club meeting. They were doing a presentation about the sun and how we found out how it works. Pretty low turn out, probably because of the weather.
