The Church has been slow at reconciling with these challenging ideas, but better late than never. It's good that there are ways of confirming that indeed you're in the presence of the remains of such a visionary. It's like looking at a quasar in a rich star field: you can be in awe only if you know that you're in front of it/him. Thanks for posting this Pierre.

Well the church figured out that it is bad policy to deny the importance of copernicus. that would make them look stupid. as stupid as person saying that gravity dose not exist because it is only a theory of gravity.

But anyway I guess they thought that church already gets WAY LOT of bad press (pedophilia) that they should do something nice.

Thanks for posting this, Pierre. It took a truly great mind to allow observation and reason to overcome the intuitive geocentric/anthropocentric view of the universe. It's about time he was granted this final courtesy.

I recall seeing a period mechanism used to explain retrograde planetary motion in an earth centered system. Frustratingly, I can't recall who created it, but it required exceedingly impressive engineering to prove the wrong solution (if any of you know what I'm talking about and can remind me of the builder, I'd very much appreciate it.) For me, the engineer can be forgiven his faulty solution for the beauty of his engineering.
