Let me show you my favourite site.

I a densely populated country like Germany, light pollution is a real problem. I'm quite lucky though because I live in a rather rural part of Bavaria. A twenty minute drive takes me to my favourite site (look it up on Google Earth with coordinates N 49.630262, E 10.297875 ) with a nice, dark sky:

It's situated on a hill at the edge of a forest area with a good 360 degree view. The cool air from the forest allows for excellent seeing conditions.

It's a great place for deep sky observation with my 10" Lightbridge. This is what it looks like when I'm all set for the night :-)

    Clear skies, phreedle

Well, it looks like I'm clearly in a red zone...however, I joined a local astronomy club, "Back Bay Amature Astronomers"
This is where they go to view -

Default My home observing site in New Hampshire USA

I set up on the island in the cul-de-sac outside my apartment. There are houses and trees all around but the skies are relatively dark.

I also sometimes set up at my astronomy club's site down in the southern aprt of the state, and sometimes I set up at the Shepard McAuliffe Discovery Center in Concord.

In California I used to set up my equipment at Mount Wilson Observatory, or at the Orange County Astronomers sites in Anza and at Black Star Canyon.

In addition I did many astronomy outreach at school venues around Orange County, California. In addition I used to set up my telescope for solar observing at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Open Houses in Pasadena:

    Default My home site

I will have to snap shots next time I am on top of Mt. Pisgah then! Great shots folks of your viewing sites! I enjoy seeing them.

But from my side deck of my house in western, NC this is my main view to the east/southeast/south. No a real good view of what I see but you get the idea. A picture I took with the new timer for the camera with me and the girls, Lucy & Heidi my two Brittany's!
