My grandson, and I, were leaving a star-party one night, and as we were driving, away down a slight incline, closing on a stop sign, we heard "tinkle-tinkle-CRUNCH! We forgot to put-away the eps, that we had on the hood! It made a good table though! lol!![]()

what sort of eyepieces were they? hope they weren't ethos . . . THAT would be bad.
My problem sometimes is that when it's winter, my fingers get cold and when i change a eyepiece they usually find their way to the ground . . . thankfully their cheap, although it would be nice if they'd give you a heads up before they were traveling to the Grand Canyon . . .

Nothing major, just some .985s from his little scope! Bought him a .985 to 1 1/4 adapter,so it won"t happen again! LOL![]()
I accidentally had the drive on my eq mount Powerstar set to Southern Hemisphere - I must have hit the switch the last time I put it away. "What's wrong with this stupid scope?" "Why is it not tracking?" "Why are things racing out of my field of view so fast?"
I seriously wrestled with this for 10 minutes before I figured it out.
Screwed up on night one. When I was assembling my dob I wrenched the handle screws way too tight and heard a pop, pop, pop, a small crack streaked across, and then one end just exploded everywhere. Orion was awesome and sent me out a replacement free of charge. I'm sure I'll have observing stories with some time.

While staying at an old friend's house for the weekend, along with another old friend who had come to visit as well so we could jam on some rock n roll, my first friend's wife, the other friend, and I went out with the ST80 while my first friend went to play a gig one night. Now, I don't often have the opportunity to show anyone anything, so I was all wired up. I told them we would look at the Beehive, and explained what it is. So, here I go setting up and getting my chair positioned when I had to say, "Ahem, excuse me, I need to move the chair around to the opposite side." Good grief, I was aiming east when the Beehive is in the west right now. Then, my friend's wife asked me how far away it is. "Uhhhh, hm, I don't remember." I need to practice.
I set out one night to find Saturn so I moved my scope to the balcony and took advantage of the fact that 2 street lights were not working and it was pretty dark.
My cat was snooping around cause she`s very curious and wants to know everything that happens.
So I aimed my scope towards Saturn, it was dark and quiet, my parents were sleeping, there was no noise whatsoever, the moon wasn`t visible anymore....the perfect scenario.
I was enjoying Saturn while sitting down on a big pillow when I heard some strange noises behing me.That startled me.Then I felt something in my hair moving. That scared me.Then I felt a cold breath near my ear.Now that was terrifieng
It the moment I was so frightened that I didn`t realize I was pushing my scope out the window!!!
I realized it in the last second and pulled my scope back in.Two frights for a night.
And the culprit?.....my cat who was sitting on a table near me and, as usual, was curious to see what I was doing![]()
