Default Alpha Centauri Radiating 3 Lines to the Naked Eye

    Hi All
Why is Alpha Centauri radiating 3 clear lines which appear 7 mm long and are at angles of 135, 180 and 225 degrees. I’ve observed this the last two nights from 6-8pm. Never seen any star do this? Any ideas what could be causing this phenomenon?? It is visible to the naked eye.

Have you had your eyes checked for astigmatism?

We have no way of knowing from your description what the "lines" look like. "7mm" could be any length at all, depending on where your ruler was positioned. Fat lines? Thin lines? Tapered lines? A photo would be helpful.

Very interesting will have to look this up but it does appear to be Astigmatism in it's early stages....

If you are observing visually, cataracts can cause images like that. Rotate your head around the eyepiece and see if the lines move with you.

Yep, mine have gotten pretty bad in the left eye. So you might also try the other eye to see if the symptoms persist.
