Default I did it, yes I did. I ordered LOTS of clouds!!

I have been really enjoying the views through my C14 and I think I have a really good example but I've always wondered what kind of difference there would be with an Edge version. Back when I bought the C14, I was going back and forth about which version to get. I did lots of reading and asked lots of scope salespeople. I have been doing visual since the mid 1970s and other than doing some EAA and a little planetary, I really have no interest in AP. So from everything I gathered back when making the purchase, I didn't really need the Edge version. And maybe I don't, but life is short and I will always wonder unless I try for myself. There have been a few people that have said the sharpness of the stars is always better in the Edge version, even in the middle of the field but especially at the edges on widefield views. I don't think the Edge will make a lot of difference on planetary, planetary nebula or globular clusters. Where it should make the biggest difference is on open clusters, large nebula and especially on lunar observing.

So today, I pulled out the plastic and hit the "Place Order" button. It is shipping today from Agena Astro and should be here Monday the 16th. Hopefully the "brown truck" people treat it with care.

When it arrives, I'll remove the Tempest fans and Feathertouch from the C14 I currently have and put the OTA on the used market.

Now the waiting for the clouds to arrive Monday will begin... Er, I mean for the scope to arrive Monday.

    Ah good!

Maybe that will some of the persistant moisture left behind from the last storm out of the panhandle!

btw; congrats on the new scope and will be interested in any changes perceived.

Congratulations, the EdgeHD is a aplanatic scope which produces a better flat field view.
According to Celestron, the Edge produces a field 3x flatter than a standard SCT.

A Aplanatic should make a difference on planetary, not as good as a Mak but definitely better than a standard SCT.

Considering the loss I'm going to take selling the C14 and the additional cost of the Edge 14", I'm hoping I see a difference on everything (in a good way of course)!!

Not an increase in size Bryan, just hopefully an increase in quality of views and of course an increase in the paid price.

Over 40+ years I've owned quite a few scopes but over the last 9 or 10 years I've really stepped up the quality IMO. During that time, I went from an old 4" achro on an Alt/AZ mount to a 5" achro on a GEM (CG4) then to a 5" APO (ES CF) on a bigger GEM (AVX) then added a 10" Newt on a DOB base then added a 9.25" SCT then added a 14" SCT and a bigger GEM (CGEM DX) then swapped to the huge GEM mount (CGE PRO) then upgraded the 5" APO to a 6" APO (ES CF) and now upgrading the C14 to the 14" Edge. There were a few other swap around changes during that time but that would involve too much typing...LOL

I will pretty much have my dream scopes by next week. The only remaining upgrade would be the NEWT. The Obsession 20" is calling....
