    Default Black Diamond headlamp

    Spot - Black Diamond Gear

I bought this light for camping and fishing, but its been the best astronomy light I've found. Once you switch to the red mode, you can cut it on and off without cycling past the blinding white mode. Also, the red is variable in power. I keep mine in the lowest power, and just cut it up as needed.
Yes, the is a white mode, in both flood and spot.

I have a different model, and use it the same way - really useful! Keep the red light on for all the futzing with equipment I need to do, then switch the white light on when it's time to pack up and sweep the ground for all the caps and bits I dropped.

Being able to turn the red light on and off without cycling through a few white modes is a definite selling point for me. That's a fault with the other headlamps I've tried, and has caused me to limit my astro-lighting to hand-held lights. I'm ordering one. Maybe two.

You won't regret it. I got my first of three for saltwater fishing and camping. My son hikes the AT with his, and mine is always in my pack.
