    Default Zodiacal Light

Tonight is my first time seeing & noticing the zodiacal light! First noticed the appearance of an odd light bloom (towards the East and near the ecliptic) on our all sky camera. Went outside to see what it was with the naked eye. After a quick discussion with the nights astronomer, we decided it was the zodiacal light!
That's a nice little check in my stargazing book!!

    Congrats on spotting it!

I remember the first time I saw it. I had just attended a lecture where the presenter told us about the zodiacal light and how to see it. He stressed the need to be in a dark site and to let the eyes dark-adapt for at least 20 minutes. Well, I had the dark site nailed (Bortle 2), so I stepped out the front door, looked to the west (this was in February) and there it was - no dark adaptation necessary thanks to the dark sky. It is pretty amazing, especially the first time you see it.

Congrats on seeing the ZL. I see it every spring in the late evening, but have never gotten up in the early AM to see it in the fall. The Zodiacal Light is a way-cools phenomenon in a dark sky.

Nice job on this, and a really good image of the ZL. No joy from here, ever!
