    Default Unbelieveable Meteorite...

Hey all. I just got home from work about 20 minutes ago and was letting my dogs out when I peered up at Saturn, still visible in the brightening sky. As I was gazing at it with my naked eyes, a brilliant (-6 mag ?) meteor shot past just a few degrees of Saturn!!! It was heading South by Southeast and was blue-green in color! It was visible for about a second and a half and as it past just a few degrees of Saturn, I saw 2 pieces break away and spatter out, much like an air rocket on the 4th of July. Easily the best meteor I have seen in about 10 years.

Those surprises are what you'll always remember.
I was at my dark site about six weeks ago and at around 8:00pm, one shot across the sky lighting up the entire area in a blue/green light. It literally was blinding.
It was so bright, I thought it was some type of an explosion...but obviously no sound.

Best I ever saw in my life.

That is way cool. I've always wanted to see a spectacular meteorite. I got an exposure of one many years back when taking a star trails shot during the Perseids, it bulged wildly in the middle of the trail, but I didn't see it happen. When I came out (had only gone inside to get a cup of coffee) the cloud trail was visible, and when the negative came back from processing I kicked myself for missing it.

A note, that was probably Jupiter you were looking at just before sunrise. Great catch for you!

Awesome! I've never seen one break apart, must have been a neat sight. I did have a small one shoot through the field of view of my eyepiece a while back. It kinda made me jump a little bit with a sudden bright streak, but it was gone by the time I got my head up.

Fireball! Very cool and they "burn" into you memory -
Check out the AMS (American Meteor Society) web site: American Meteor Society
Look under the fireball tab and you can see if anyone else saw and reported it - take a look and let us know what you find.

To report a fireball - Report a Fireball

Fun to do - I've been lucky enough to see several - the best was the color of a gold 4th of July sparkler and broke into several pieces. Would love to hear sound with one but never have. Neat thing - someone 30 miles East of me saw and reported it too - our observations were spot on.

    Congratulations!

BTW where do you keep your Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator?

It sounds like one of the Geminid meteor shower, but I think you mean Jupiter, not Saturn, which is very close to the sun at the moment and therefore invisible.
