First through binoculars was M45, M42, and M31. First through telescope was M42 in 8" reflector and it floored me. From my light polluted backyard the larger nebula always impress me. Summertime Lagoon, Swan, Triffid, and Eagle.

I have grown increasingly fond of open clusters with binocular telescopes. There are many easy open cluster targets that look amazing with binoculars or a small scope. Double Cluster in Perseus is a sight that keeps me mesmerized no matter how many times viewed.

I've seen many pictures of these larger nebula and the view through the eyepiece is quite different, but equally impressive. Pictures can never capture the luminance of the Trapezium or the open cluster in the Lagoon. Something quite beautiful that can't be transferred to photo in the way the stars are portrayed in my eyepiece.

Mine was M57. When I first saw it, I was disappointed for a split second because I thought the center spot on the primary was not supposed to be visible through the eyepiece. Then I realized it was the Ring Nebula and it's been my favorite ever since!

First DSO I saw was M42.I was blown away.Didn't have a view like that since the first light. It has been two weeks since I got my scope so there is still plenty to see and learn.
