Default CCD Cameras - Who's best?

    Okay here we go....

Who's got the best CCD camera in the $300-$500 price range. Be honest and a
review would be helpful. Are there any online comparisons?

    Thanks!

    a
In that price range, you are better off looking at second hand, or going
    'DIY', with a modified webcam.
There was a review in S&T, only a couple of months ago, of the basic imagers
in this area, but none are truly 'good'. Something like a second hand MX5,
would be a much better allround 'choice'.
Conversely though, get a Toucam, buy a larger CCD for it, do the 'long
exposure' mod, and make your own casing, possibly with simple cooling, and
you will just about fit inside the budget, and have a quite competent
    imager.

WTF?? Buy a bigger CCD??? what MOD uses that procedure?????

in that price range you'll be looking at mostly B&W imaging..
if that doesn't bother you try SAC, however for <$200.00 you
can do your own WebCAM mod, not for the faint of heart or
    in-experienced (i.e. some electronics back-ground helpful),
anyway if you do MOD say the TouCAMpro 740k or (new) 840k
(best webCAM) you'll have an AstroCAM for <200$ that will
allow you to capture images that rival AstroCAM's costing
hundreds and even thousands of dollars and that No BS, follow
this link to the site that started it all (WebCAM Conversions/MOD's)
