    Default Looking for dark skies

I live just east of Memphis, TN. I still get plenty of light pollution from
Memphis and the suburb of Collierville where I live. I am looking for a
dark sky location near Memphis, preferably south and/or east of Memphis.
Does anyone know of such a place or a resource on the web where I can look
    one up?

    Thanks,

    George

    from

    1. http://www.philharrington.net/dssd.htm Check the Kentucky listing;
there's a place near you, but not so great for darkness.

    2. http://cleardarksky.com/csk/ Now this site is truly awesome. Not just
dark sky information, but forecasts of seeing conditions for many, many
sites. And by clicking on the "Light Pollution Map" link when viewing a
    site, you get:

    3. http://cleardarksky.com/lp/MemphisTNlp.html That's the light pollution
map for the area 100 miles in any direction from Memphis. Looks like there
    are good locations SSE ( near N33.625, W89.428 ) and NW ( near N36.702,
    W91.18 ) of you.

    How cool is that?

    look
    just
    pollution
    there

More cool: http://www.rainwaterobservatory.org/stargaze/ is an upcoming
party in the SSE dark area.

So I looked this guy up. Ends up he graduated high school with my mother.
She was just talking about him a couple of days ago when we were at the
bookstore. My parents were buying his latest book.

This is good. I guess this weekend I can go to these areas and drive around
until I find someplace to setup.

Parallel with HY 61 in Mississippi is Old Highway 61. This is
traveling towards Tunica from Memphis. There are spots you
can pull over where the darkness is pretty damned good. You
are far enough away from Memphis and still not close to Tunica
for the light pollution. Take the interstate south to the casino
exit and then take the first right you come to. That should be
    Old Highway 61.
