    Default Greetings from Pennsylvania

    Hi all,
    My name is Russ.

I'm wanting to get back into the hobby of astronomy. It's been many, many years since I was a kid in my back yard with my Tasco department store scope. I remember using that scope alot back then so I'm really excited to get my hands on one of the great scopes I see being sold today.

I haven't purchased one yet as I'm still deciding on which one to get. I'm leaning towards one of the Orion XT's like the xt6. If anyone has any comparable suggestions they are welcome.

I'd eventually like to get into some photography with my scope and realize a dob isn't what I'll need but I figure I'd better begin again with something that's easy to use.

Anyway it's good to be a part of these great forums.

    Thank You.

Hi Russ, welcome to the forum. You are right, a dob is not good for astrophotography though you can get some simple shots of planets and stars. But it is great value for the money. Check out the Beginners Forum and there are some threads on good scopes to start off with. As an owner of a 8 inch dob, I can vouch for a dob, best value for money.

Hi, Russ I'm from PA myself. You may want to look into goto scopes because they are able to track objects and are suitable for planetary and lunar imaging. The scope I have is pretty user friendly and relatively cheap.

    Thanks Balu,
Agreed the beginner's forums is a great place. I've been through a few pages of posts so far and plan on reading more. I like to browse the forums at night as I'm enjoying a glass of wine or Baileys. Makes it more fun
