Hello Starstruck! 'Tis good to see another fellow Derry-ite on the forum!

I've always been into astronomy, although it was only last summer that I got my first telescope. You should definitely pick it up as a hobby...its interesting and satisfying at the same time!

You are lucky too because there are plenty of dark skies around Dungiven, and I'd bet some great observing spots. As Roverich said, you should download Stellarium and you'll soon know your way around the sky

Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.

Thanks to you all for your warm welcomes !

Dungiven is indeed a very good spot - very little light interference. 15mins on foot and I'm on the foothills of Benbradagh and the Sperrins. Very good skies especially on moonless nights.
