    Default Project

Hi all, I am here for a thirst of knowledge.
I have a project plan in my head, and wish to evolve it.

the project is governed by a lack of funds. (I am disabled and on a pension.)

    The Project.
I have a 8" dob, and I am in the proceeds of converting it to a tracking dob.

    1. I have installed a 12" lazy Susan bearing on the base which smooths the movement to my liking.
    2. I am sourcing 4 roller bearings to replace the teflon bushes that the tube mounts on for smoothness.
3 I also plan to install around the base a nylon gear to which I will attach a slow and variable speed motor for tracking the horizontal direction.
    4. I have thought of a couple of ways to do the vertical movement but, I am not happy with either of them at this point.
5, Camera. I use a Canon A590is, the primary lens I have removed and mount this directly into the eye piece mount of the scope. I also butchered my webcam and put this into a mount that also goes directly into the eye piece.

I am open to discussion an any of what I have done so far.

    Ritchie.

my other interests are Music, and electronics.

Hi Ritchie, and welcome to the forums!
Sounds like a great project, lots of other members have also taken to creating frankenstein scopes.. best of luck with it and I'm certain you will be getting input before long.
